They're okay. I've been listening to punk as my primary music for a long time, and there was really nothing spectacular about them. They were just marketed to perfection. When you consider the Damned were around longer, The Clash released their album first, and The Adicts were already challenging the stereotype, there isn't much left but to commercialize. The Sex Pistols dominated that! They wrote the manual on "how to be a punk." Take that as a good thing if you want, but I don't see it that way. It's responsible for the whole "conform to non-conformity" attitude. This same attitude is perpetuated today by bands like The Casualties. You aren't punk unless...
I will also go out on a limb and say the Sex Pistols are the reason Punk was seen as a trend and not a valid genre to stay. If anything, that hurt punk a whole lot more than it helped. It took the tenacity of a lot of underground bands to keep it alive.

However, I do own all their stuff, and my favorite song is No Feelings.

***But they couldn't rebel until they signed the big deal with the big company right? Then make all the TV appearances and what not? Whereas the bands creating the scene at CBGB's in 1975 (where Malcom learned of the scene then returned to London to market one of these bands), never did that. Maybe that was the true value of rebellion. If anybody deserves more recognition, how about the Dead Boys.

God save the queen is a good song and yes in my opinon they have a huge influence.

I think Sid Vicious is HIGHLY overrated, and I LOVE Glen Matlock. I just had to say that... And he was a bit "posh". But I think the Pistols would have lasted a lot longer if Glen had stayed. And he could actually play.

My fav. song is Pretty Vacant. They influence the little things I do in life, like disrespecting a teacher I think is being unfair or pissing me off, or when people say stuff to me. When people call me evil, I just think, 'What would Johnny Rotten do?' and I tell them to f**k off.

i like the sex pistols a lot, but they sold themselves, but what the hell can you do about it... my favourite songs are schools are prisons and no fun...

The Sex Pistols have had a HUGE influence on punk and rock music for decades now. A fact made even more impressive when you consider their very brief recording career.

For the doofy chick who posted second, I can only guess what you listen to. Some lame *** Top 40 'here today, gone tomorrow' crap. Lighten up, and stop reading posts you have no interest in or knowledge of.

Favorite songs - 'Bodies', and 'Holiday In The Sun'..

'Sid And Nancy' was a great movie - Gary Oldman is a brilliant actor.

FYI - The Sex Pistols are considering recording a few new tracks this year, though likely not a full length release. Keep your eyes peeled for that.

I love them, but can't say that the influenced me much, other than me wanting to say F*** the world when I have a crappy day.

Favourite song- God Save the Queen

I remember when i first heard about them- it was on the national news- they showed them all angry and people throwing pig noses on stage. I thought the music was crap. I was into everything but punk but then I heard the Ramones and loved them. I think it had to do with Johnny Rotten's voice and constant yelling like he was trying to convince me of something. I didn't care what England was going through at the time and thought that they were pretty talentless except for Steve Jones

The Sex Pistols Rock!!!

I love Sex Pistols. They have big influence on me. I love all sorts of punk, exept emo(that doesnt ******* exist).Johnny Rotten is fuckin genius,he is honest and furious person, who turned England over its head. Sid Vicious was a junkie, but he had a good heart, and overaly was a good person, who was fucked up by McLaren(**** face). My favorite songs are Holidays In The Sun,Pretty Vacant and Problem. Punk's Not ******* Dead,Emo is!!!

The 'first' song I heard from them was 'Holidays in the Sun' and when I heard it I thought 'well this is a really good band, I have to listen more songs'.
Afterwards it came 'God save the queen' and with 'Anarchy in the UK' I became punk because it gave me more reasons to be anarchist and to be different from today's dumb-brained society.
I think that there hasn't been a band like this and that there will never be another one. It was an exception, but now exceptions are not fashionable, as you can see. Money corrupts many bands, and the ones that are half decent don't have the strength and the message the Sex Pistols sent, eventhough they are good.
My favourite song from them is 'Sub-mission'. I heard this song when I was a kid in many places, but I didn't actually know it was from the Sex Pistols.
