Olivia Newton-John

Ernest V Stoneman. The Blue Sky Boys also sang this song but it sounds a little more older.

Suzanne Prentice

Emmylou Harris had a version of it as did Olivia Newton John and Joan Beaz

Many have recorded it, it's an old traditional folk song as is 'Barbra Allen'. I'm surprised it also hasn't been resurrected & re-recorded as so many have.

Edit for Waterbro..: many of the traditional songs were never copyrighted, such as "Long Black Veil" which came up recently. Anyone who wants to put their arrangement on paper with their name as 'songwriter' can. Of course once that's done, it's by permission only. Many, like me, have (or had) elders who learned these songs from people who'd been singing & playing them for decades before they were born, much less any of us. There is always someone who wants credit &/or profit for what has been around as 'passed- down knowledge' for ages. Not to be a know-it-all, but I think it's a bit sad, they should let traditions live on as they developed, not to a single person's whim.

Joe Harris reportedly wrote it.... but some term it "Traditional"... The earliest recording I have of it is the Manroe Brothers in 1963.

I'm sure it was recorded before that but I can't document it.

Great Song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have it by Charlie Pride, in 1962 i think.

Olivia Newton-John
