Who is the greatest rock Bassist of all time?!

Question: Just give me a little who and why. I am interested in hearing some opinions.

Answers: Just give me a little who and why. I am interested in hearing some opinions.

In terms of talent, I'm gonna have to say Les Claypool. He's just all over that bass. But some other bassists who stand out in my collection are Flea (Chili Peppers), Cliff Burton (Metallica), P-Nut (311), Dirk Lance (Incubus), Justin Chancelor (Tool), Geezer Butler (Sabbath), and John Paul Jones (Zeppelin).

Flea. I think it's because he's really good, his bass lines are also so funky, yet they work with the softest songs. He's also a really good performer, really energetic. I think he's awesome.

And someone said Tim Commerford...I like him. He gets overshadowed by Tom Morello (it's hard not to), and I think he's really good. Have you ever heard the bass line in "Bullet in the Head" by Rage Against the Machine? AWESOME!

John Entwistle from "The Who"

INCREDIBLE player and GREAT songwriter too
"Boris the Spider" "Cousin Kevin" "Fiddle About"

In a 2000 concert at the Royal Albert Hall, Entwistle gave a show-stopping 5 minute long solo during the song "5'15" Check it out. It will leave you speechless

cliff burton (metalica's original bass player) R.I.P..i just loved his style

les claypool-primus. (amazing talent)

john entwistle-the who. (love to watch him)

Eric Avery (Janes Addiction) - One of the most underated bassists in my opinion - was the backbone of JA most of their earlier work was built around the bass lines

How the hell someone can say Mike Dirnt is beyond me, he's sh1t.

John Entwistle of The Who or John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin. It is seriously difficult to keep time with drummers like Keith Moon and Bonzo Bonham.

Cliff Burton - Metallica

Michael Anthony - Van Halen - why? cause his bass guitar looked like a Jack Daniels bottle...

The late Berry Oakley of the Allman Brothers Band. Listen to his bass on Fillmore East and you can tell that he played the bass for both rhythm and melody. He was phenomenal.

John Entwisle-May he rest in peace. He could do some incedible stuff with his bass. I agree about that 2000 solo It will blow you away!

Jack Bruce- Cream
Listen to "Live Cream" just once, you'd swear his fingers are made of steel. Incredible work on a fretless base, great improvisation, fast, concise, expressive. A master at work.

Geddy Lee from Rush
I don't know much about bass playing, but I know that he plays excellent!

michael balzary :D

i love him

My all time favorite is Rudy Sarzo. Anybody that was able to play with the late great Randy Rhoads is at the top in my book.

Cliff Burton- Metallica
Fieldy-Korn

Les Claypool - Primus
Tim Commerford - Rage against the Machine/Audioslave
Billy Sheehan - Single/Talas/David Lee Roth/Mr. Big/Niacin
Rudy Sarzo - Ozzy/Quiet Riot/Whitesnake/Manic Eden/Dio

John Paul Jones - Led Zeppelin

CAUSE IT'S LED ZEPPELIN BABY!!!

Les Claypool - Primus

Les Claypool hands down

John Entwhistle {The Who}

John McVie {Fleetwood Mac}

Sting {The Police and solo}

They all have their own style of playing, and are all damn good.

Flea.
Les Claypool.

Geddy Lee
No One else makes playing such breathtakingly complex Basslines sound so easy.

Looks like everyone forgot to mention....ROGER WATERS
Not only excellent bassist, but also, song writer, and vocalist.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention, Tal Wilkenfeld. She's this hot little number who plays bass for Jeff Beck. I saw them on PBS playing for some benefit ( not really sure which ).

John Entwistle - The Who
Chris Squire - Yes

John Entwistle
John Paul Jones
Geddy Lee
