I understand that some people think this is a matter of opinion. And in some cases, I would agree. Hell, in most cases I would agree. But there comes a point where a band moves from normal band into a higher echelon. Take this reworded version of the original question for example:
"Which band is better - Led Zeppelin or AFI?"
At this point a person's opinion counts for nothing. There is a right answer and a wrong answer. The right answer, for those keeping score at home, is Led Zeppelin. AFI is good. AFI is popular. And AFI could disappear tomorrow and the music landscape would be largely unaffected. It's a stretch to say that people will be referencing AFI albums in twenty years or to project that any AFI albums will be selling the way AC/DC's Back in Black or Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon or any of the first 4 Zeppelin albums still do to this day. Radiohead, has certainly transcended the point of being only temporarily popular. OK Computer is one of the most important albums of the 90's. Rolling Stone lists Radiohead as #73 on their list of the Greatest Artists of All Time and The Bends as #110 and OK Computer as #162 and Kid A as #428 respectively on their list of the 500 Greatest Albums Ever. No AFI albums made the cut.
In closing, I think the best way to differentiate the two is that AFI is a band. They're a decent band (although recently having fallen into the mediocrity and stylized overproduction of other pop/punk bands but they're still just a band. Radiohead are artists. They're pioneers. They have an ability to influence the musical landscape in ways that few other current artists can, as witnessed by the radical approach they took with their latest album In Rainbows - a move that may change the way musicians distribute music industry-wide. And musical history will remember them like few others.

Radiohead will stand the test of time. AFI can't adapt as well.

Old AFI...plus they seem to be adapting to the scene so they may be somewhat popular with various crowds for a long time.
I like Radiohead, but they seem to be an aquired taste. I don't know anyone who just thinks they are okay-either you really like them or you hate them.

AFI is much better if you like punk radio head is also sweet.
But im sure everyone on here just listens to the gay stuff on mtv. You got to check out there old albums when they were still with nitro records. AFI albums were all around better so yeah. AFI. But its really up to you.
I'll have to agree with Mis on this one. AFI's last two albums took a couple of steps away from their punk roots making them more versatile in their appeal. My personal opinion is that AFI's older stuff is great. And I liked Kid A by Radiohead, but this is like comparing apples to oranges. It all depends on your taste of music genre.
A.F.I. beacuse they have better faster beats and great singing and it's punk...Radiohead is more for stoners ( like me :)) and only good when your high...A.F.I. is good anytime! :)

over all i would say radiohead they put out more music sold more albums and are over all a much 'bigger' band then AFI
