Back in the 80s, when the world was pressuring South Africa to end apartheid. There was a song by a man from Bruce Springsteen's band (and played a starring role in The Sopranos). His name eludes me right now. But the name of the song is "I don't wanna play Sun City." Check it out. It might be on youtube. Nelson Mandela is, as we all know, a major player in the ending of apartheid.
"Biko" by Peter Gabriel

Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko
Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko
Yihla Moja, Yihla Moja
-The man is dead
When I try to sleep at night
I can only dream in red
The outside world is black and white
With only one colour dead
Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko
Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko
Yihla Moja, Yihla Moja
-The man is dead
You can blow out a candle
But you can't blow out a fire
Once the flames begin to catch
The wind will blow it higher
Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko
Yihla Moja, Yihla Moja
-The man is dead
And the eyes of the world are
watching now
watching now
The Specials did a song called "Free Nelson Mandela".
A Tribe Called Quest did "Steve Biko" and a song called "Mr. Muhammad".
koratu did a song in Spanish called "Desmond Tutu".
Boogie Down Productions' tune "7 dee jays" mentions deKlerk.
Zac Ezrin did a metal album titled "Mansa Musa"
Kinky Friedman (Homo Erectus) and Philip Lynott (Ode to a Black Man) both mention Jomo Kenyatta in their lyrics.
And I would imagine you'd find a plethora of songs that pay homage to Siddhartha Gautama (or as he's better known - Buddha).
