Do you people call you weird because of the bands you like?!

Question: and if so then are you proud to be weird?

Answers: and if so then are you proud to be weird?

yep. there's this elite group of kids who are all metal and alternative and screamo like me, but they don't seem to like me very much. but otherwise, my music choices are frowned upon. i have this really preppy friend who was going through my ipod, and every few songs she would go "oh my goodness!" and then, of course, she got to the k's and found "Kill All Your Friends." she almost got off of the bus.

and then one day my cell phone went off in class, and the ringtone was "all these things i hate revolve around me," and my teacher just about had a heart attack.

if the music i listen to is weird, then i want to be weird, god dang it.

Yes people call me weird because of the bands I listen to. I'm kind of proud to be weird because I know information that most do not know. But on the downside I feel like I'm unable to reconnect with others because I'm seen as an outsider to most people so it gets lonely.

EDIT: Jake - Lol same things what my friends tell me "your music is just screaming and you can't understand it and how can you call it music?" They are Rap fans btw to :P

I listen to mostly classic rock and I've never really come across anyone who finds that weird even though I'm only 18. They usually just think it's weird that I know so much about them, but not that I listen to them.

I don't consider it weird, I call it "unique" and heck yea I'm proud.
So what if most teens don't listen to progressive rock? if I like it, I like it. I don't really let what other people say get to me. I've been through that and I'm over it.

Dan: Ha! At least it not "you should date my dad, you two have very similar dinosaur music taste"

yes.

and totally and completely.

yes and yes, i embrace my "weirdness"

Yes, here's how a normal conversation goes.

"You're weird, you listen to bands that scream and nobody has ever heard of"

I respond, "If listening to Ay Gay Gay and having a Boys Like Girls ringtone is normal, then I don't want to be normal"

nah...guys do sometimes cuz I really like musicals, and I guess that's considered to be more girly. but whatever, i AM a girl, so i don't care what they say

yes but at the same times its usually either A) ppl that listen to rap bullshit or B) anyone that doesnt appreiate music or understand it as I do.

Music to me isnt using electronic boards to make beats anyone can do that.

Underground for life

Yes, that's about the nicest thing I've been called for listening to the music I do.

and Yes I'm proud to be weird.

yes and I am proud to be weird....I would never stop listening to mcr or evanescence because people thought I was weird....I'm unique lol

yeah they do. they only think that their music is the best no matter what they like.

well my kids call me sometimes

METAL MAMA............ but I like it.

yer, i get called emo and goth all the time... but i aint gonnna chang who i am for any asshole with a bunch of jocks egging them on, its not worth it.
xx

yeah all the time ! They call me weird because they have never heard of what im listening to. When they call me weird it makes me feel good and unique.

not yet...

Actually what I get more of is "Hey, my dad listens to T.Rex!" and such. One guy told me his dad listens to the Clash, I needs to start collecting some fathers' numbers and hang out on the weekends, sound like cool guys.

But most people don't know what any of my music is and if they do they usually just sound disappointed it's not rap and/or the latest popular rock song. In fact the only band on my iPod that people ever really recognize by name are the Beatles and maybe the Ramones.

Yea i get callrd weird alot...and im proud

i hate it when people go "ugh... you listen to THAT band". sometimes you just have to stand up for what you like and back down for nobody. just cause everyone hates the music you like doesn't mean you gotta. never say thats not REAL music cause just one song can change a life around. i am weird and proud of it.

Uhh, yeah!
You see, my favorite bands are the Jonas Brothers and Panic! At The Disco. I get different responses from my friends, who like one of them but hate the other.

"I LOVE Jonas Brothers, but Panic! is so gay!"
or
"Ew. Why the heck do you like Jonas Brothers? Panic! At The Disco is so much better!"
or
"You need to listen to real music, both those bands suck!"

I love bands like Hawthorne Heights, blessthefall, Fall Out Boy, Cobra Starship...yadda yadda. They call me weird because I like the Jonas Brothers, which are a completely different genre of music and are like, "Jonas Brothers are a Disney band! Does that mean you like Hannah Montana too?" Just because they are played on Disney does not mean they are something as stupid and revolting as Hannah Montana. At least they don't have body doubles on stage!

Just because the guys from Panic! At The Disco wear eyeliner and interact with each other on stage does NOT mean they are gay. Duh! Please, you people need to GET A LIFE!

I am proud of being 'weird'.

Some of my friends listen to bad rap, and i listen to horrible snap music that shouldn't be considered rap, and the only rap I listen to rap thats lyrical . but no one has made fun of me for it yet .

I once did show a few of my friends Suicidal Tendencies songs from their first album to scare them and they were like"you listen to weird music." One guy told me to listen to Linkin Park instead lol.

Some people also told me that they never heard of most of the music in my mp3.

not weird....but people are usually surprised by what i listen to....i get the whole "i never would have guessed that you listen to that", and i just get pisted because just because i dont appear to "look" like a hard rock and metal fan, people assume im into all the mainstream crappy girly music......it gets really annoying, but then again i should be happy i have good taste... :)

I never tell them what music or band i like coz they kinda more into pop and boyband stuff so to tell that i'm a fan of MCR thats crazy..I'm not try to hide from other ppl that 'im a fan or what but i just hate the way they treated us bcz of it..

well, i hang out with friends who have the same diverse taste in music as me, so not too much actually.

but a lot of people dont even know who i'm talking about half the time when i tell them bands i like.

oh yeah, AND some people who look through my ipod are like, "wow. you have iron maiden, eminem, fall out boy, and the jonas brothers ON THE SAME PLAYLIST. just wow."
but yeah, i just like pretty much everything ^_^

yup :D
and i love being weird
but what isn't weird to some people is really weird to other ppl
just 2 day me and my friend was talking about how weird we r in science

not a whole lot, the only person that does thinks he's a gangster......and he's not, so whatever. he doens't bother me

People are always like "what the heck are they saying, they sound like a monster" What is normal? Being yourself, exactly.if you don't like the music i like then dont bother listening to it or complaining about it.

omg i hear that all the time mostly from my family cause my mom doesnt really care much wat i listen to but she like gets creeped out by it. also my sis is like into rap and othersh*t like that and i cant stand that kind of music and she always makes fun of me cause i listen to rock and metal. like she thinks im weird cause i listen scemo. and when i go like to a family party my family thinks im weird cause i wear mostly darkish colors and i have my "emo" hair so yeah i know they talk bad about me behind my back but i give a sh*t if they like me or not im not changing for them id rather die then dress like a **** and listen to sh*ty *** music!

Yes they think I'm weird, and yes I am proud of the music I listen to because it is what I personally prefer.

Yeah all the time, but I dont let it bother me. I embrace the weirdness and use it to my advantage

Some people do because I mostly listen to indie bands, but I don't really care. I love the bands that I listen to and that's all that matters. I would hate to sacrifice my music tastes to conform and to succumb to the mainstream style. And I admire my favorite bands too. Take Paul Banks as an example. He said something to the like of "I'd rather be known as a weird person."
