R&P: What do you think about Rap music?!

Question: I'm not bashing it. I just want to know what you other dwellers out there from R&P think about it.

I don't like it personally. Your turn :)

Dark: there are 2 kinds of rap music, same as rock music. Mainstream and underground. I have respect for Run DMC, for 2pac, for Biggie. Why? because they were talented guys, without any shitty strings attached. Talented and troubled <2PAC>

what comes todays rap it's suck

I don't get it!

not my cup of tea!
I prefer to rock and headbang!!

I love alot of different kinds of music... I like rap but my favorite is hip-hop or r&b... I like Eminem but also BowWow and Chris Brown...

The mainstream stuff sucks just like mainstream rock/metal. I like some rap; the underground stuff.

I liked it around the late 80s-early 90s. Then I stayed away for a long time. Lately I've been wanting to hear more of it though. Not the MTV garbage (50 Cent, Soulja Boy, Eminem, etc), but real stuff. In the last few years, I have liked Jurassic 5, Kool Keith, etc..
Music taste, like food, needs to be tested periodically. It changes as you get older, and you may like something you used to hate.
Granted, Punk has been with me the majority of my life at this point, and I don't see it going away in the near future. Rap would just be a side dish.

...I think I need something to eat, I can't get away from the food analogy.

depends on the artist the beat and wat they are saying

I like a little of the new rap, but honestly, nothing beats the old school rap!!! :) It's got a great beat, words you can understand and actually sing along to and you will always hear it at a dance club! :)

I don't really like Rap, I like Rock, Techno, Club, Electronic, Dance etc

Personally, I don't relate to rap. I don't related to the lyrics, the hardships the artists are singing about, a life of drugs, a life in the streets, etc. I don't relate to the culture of hip hop or rap...the clothing, the history, the appeal, etc.

I'm quite fond of some of it, it's not my favourite genre, but within it there /are/ some greats.
Like Rock, what is becoming mainstream in the Rap genre these days really isn't an accurate representation of what it really is. They don't just sing/*rap about being "pimps" and all that jazz - many rappers actually have important messages in their lyrics, but sadly, the Souja Boys of the Rap industry are the ones finding fame while the ones with actual things to say are being ignored.
It's unfortunate really, but it seems to be happening in most genres these days.

i'm ok with it. i don't like most of it but i don't go about dissing it. i only like some of it tho.

Early stuff was good, rap now, worthless piece of crap

im getting really sick of the gangster stuff. every song is just talking about killing some n*gger for some crack rocks or something and runnin from tha police... o yea and they shot them too lol. the only rapper iv been listening to lately is Lil Wayne. the man is a genious with his lyrics and his new album coming out is awesome. im mostly a rock and country guy though.

It Sucks!

I only like a couple like Dr. Dre, Eminem, BIG, Tupac, Eminem. As a Rock fan, mostly of GOOD Rock music like Zeppelin and Sabbath, I'm not at all fond of the newer rap or so-called "gangsta rap". These new rappers are no thugs and are degrading women. I'm sick of these "shoaty" and "bling-bling" rap crap. Enough with the chains and jewelry, because that is not the essence of rap and hip-hop. See? We get good rappers like Tupac who gets shot but Soulja Boy is called a Superstar? What? Better yet, lets just bring back the good ol Rock music and wipe all of these so-called "talented" artists of today.

Personally, I don't like Rap or Hip-Hop.
But that's because it just doesn't appeal to me.

I vaguely remember some of the old Rap that was around in the early 1980's, and that wasn't so bad, but I'm just not a fan.

For An Old School Original Headbanging Metalhead
My music taste ar actually quite eclectic. And, believe it or not I actually like some Rap Music. It's mostly old Rap Music but almost all the music I like is old so it fits.
Here is My Rap Top 10
1 Natural Born Killaz- Dr Dre & Ice Cube
2 Murder Was The Case-Snoop Dogg
3 Min's Playin Tricks On Me-The Geto Boys
4 **** The Hammer-Cypress Hill
5 Insane In The Brain-Cypress Hill
6 Keep Their Heads Ringin-Dr Dre
7 Check Yo Self-Ice Cube
8 Let Me Ride-Dr Dre
9 All On My *** Sac-Da Lench Mob
10 Hits From The Bong-Cypress Hill

If someone asked me if I liked rap music, I would tell them no just because I don't want to associate myself with this crap like Soljah(sp?) Boy and lyrics about getting money and big bootys.

But there are actually a few artists I like, mostly old-school like Tupac, because back then they actually wrote stuff that meant something.

i hate rap ,hip hop ,r'n'b regeaton and other stuff related to vit
i like gothic metal ( withing temptation,nightwish )
rock,pop, disco italian pop

I first started listening to rap / hip-hop in the mid to late 80's and loved it. It was a fresh new sound to a white kid who grew up in suburban America. The first stuff I heard was more of the origins - Doug E Fresh, Whodini, The Fresh Prince - then when the days of MTV Raps started out, it brought me more into the sounds of Public Enemy, Boogie Down Productions, LL Cool J and Erik B & Rakim. I still love the old school; I could ramble on about how good A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, The Pharcyde and others of that time are. I even loved the gangbanging NWA because it was so raw when it came out although now the gangsta rap is pretty beat. Since it became mainstream though, like every other style of music, it's become whack although I'm sure there's some good stuff coming out of the underground. Unfortunately I don't have many influences these days to find out more.

Darth - Cypress Hill's material was crazy good, wasn't it. And every time my stepson starts running his mouth, I have to remind him to ch-checkity check himself.

i agree with most of the above.
being a music fan, not just one genre, i know what i like. idont like all rap artists like i dont like all rock, punk, reggae, dance artists.
rap music that i have got a lot of time for are cypress hill, dr dre, eminem, mf doom, dr octogan ,kool kieth, ice cube, kanye west.. i dont like 50 cent or soldier boy or anyone like that i just dont get it.

i understand that a lot of the guys on here do like rap and hip hop to a limited degree, but i just can't say i like it at all...it doesn't appeal to me even in the least bit, and it's not even just the subject matter that is talked about in mainstream rap, it's just the whole execution of the "music"...to me, talking fast and in rhythm bears no resemblance to actual music

I admit I LOVE Eazy-E

=D

UGH don't understand a word of it

i think a lot of it is pointless, the songs about girls, money etc etc. but sometimes the beats are undeniable.

i don't hate rap in general i guess, it's just a lot of the lyrical content makes no sense and these rappers are making big money outta these pointless songs. but there is good rap, you know songs that actually have meaning to them. like kanye west isn't all that bad. a tribe called quest is really good... i don't listen to rap as often cus it's not my interest but i am starting to realize we can't bash or generalize about rap. not all rap is provocative and violent. i mean, even in rock there are songs about sex and girls... it's just not as obvious. so yep, that's my opinion.

I like the Gym Class heroes, but they are apparently known as Alternative Rap. The mainstream stuff like 50 cent, Kanye west, M&m or w/e in my opinion shouldn't be called music. Sure some of the beats are pretty good, but I don't get it. I can't understand most of the words their saying. And how is that even called singing if they are just talking fast. weird.

A lot of the mainstrema is filled with crappy dance songs, but there a few artists in the mainstream/ Rap of the 80's and 90's were awesome ,and underground rap and alternative rap are awesome too.

To the guy who said eminem sucks, you haven't heard any of his good stuff. His current stuff is bad, but he used to be a beast back from1996-2003.
