Answers: mentally stronger <stable> than those who listen mainstream music/rap? and why? thanks

Well Steven. I know this may not apply to all people. But the Metallers that I know and real life, including myself tend to think deeper into things. To find hidden meanings. Although the Rap,and Pop fans (that I have seen in real life through observations) are not deep thinkers and do not have a deeper understanding of things that are unknown to them. They just seem to be like the "la la la life is peachy type" while we're annoyed at these types of people and are attitude is "life is tough, but we can get through it RAWR!!!" Lol. Plus in English class. We write deeper poems and songs with meaningful lyrics that no one else would've thought of. But the Rap and Pop people in our English class that listen to that type of music write poems about "wahh my boyfriend/girlfriend dumped me" or "emo poems." Notice I mentioned earlier "the ones I have seen in real life through observations) this may not apply to all but I havne't met a Rap & Pop fan who do not fit in with us.

EDIT: We seem to be more aware and alert with our surroundings to and more mature than the Rap & Pop kids we've seen. We see immaturity like the Rap fans "acting to want to be a gangster" ridiculous and stupid.

More Mentally stable?
I never really though about it that way before Steven
I think it's pretty difficult to generalize that broadly
Which I admit I did saying The Entire United States in My question...that was a bit too broad of a generalization., however You only have soo much space in which to type Your question and many people have short attention spans and You have to tailor Your question to Your audience if You want to get any responces. And, making People think is the first step in the chain towards making People change.

I'm a little biased as a metaller/rocker, but I do honestly feel that people who listen to rock/punk/metal are generally more socially aware than popkids or rap fans, although early rap was a major part of musical social awareness.

The current state of the musical landscape is that rock, punk and metal take responsibility for social conscience and exposition and the more commercially popular stuff is left to fill space on the radio.

If you want to see young people with a code of honour, look no further than a moshpit. Everyone helps each other up, everybody is everyone else's friend. It's a shared experience. Rap shows, it's all guns, respect and money, but no respect for one another, as far as I'm aware.

I believe we "Underground-er'"s have more personal resolve to make choices without being herded as sheep to the slaughter. It takes a stronger will to decide for oneself what likes and dislikes one holds regarding art than to be told or shown the corporate way and follow it based solely on another's opinion. Rock On Underground!!! Don't get me wrong, my first influences in the rock world were radio played, for I had no brothers and sisters or rocker friends to show me otherwise...but now, thanx to the Heavens that Be, I am able to consult with wonderful intellectuals re: RAWK.

i don't think music has much of a connection to this issue, but in relation to it i will say if we isolated music and made it the sole means of communicating world news then today's youth wouldn't know as much as the older generation...however, today we certainly have a million other means of finding info that we didn't have years ago, and so generally speaking i think today's kids are better equipped to have an understanding of the world and not to make the same mistakes, the problem is that i think they are also not as well prepared to capitalize on the advantages of this generation as opposed to older ones

you know what they say though, history tends to repeat itself, and i think the maturity level of kids, especially teenagers, goes down with every generation

The simple answer...No. Informed people make informed decisions. Just like back in the day, nothing has changed. There were punk rockers that were just as informed as the McNeil Lehrer News hour (not sure if that is spelt right). Then there were punk rockers who could care less and it is still true today.

If one were to generalize, then one might have an arguement that people who resist pop culture, are more informed and see the hipocracy in it. They see the lies and are sick of the lies. That is why they become Punks, Emo, Mods, or NewRo's. But again, that is a generalization. Hope that helps.
