Question: I heard someone tell a white teenager that he was "acting black". His pants were saggin, his mouth had a grilled up, he was playing his music extremely loud and had very, very, very poor grammar. Vice Versa...I heard someone tell a black teenager that he was "acting white". He had on what looked like a school uniform and glasses, he was very well spoken for himself and had a "proper" tone of voice. You get where I am going with this. Why is it to "act black" is sooo negative? Why cant we say that person is "acting ignorant"...or if its not ignorant to you (cuz its not to me) ...why cant they be "acting ghetto or urban or something"....and why is the other circumstance considered "acting white"?...Why cant he be "acting educated" or better yet my favorite "acting like his mother raised him right". Let me know people...that is if you even answer..LOL

Haha, this is a great question. I hear from everyone all the time "you're so white." Only cuz Im in school, play soccer, have a job, and speak proper english. I didnt know doing and acting the way Im suppose to made me white. The reason I think people say "your acting black" is cuz saggy pants, loud music, and bad grammar is more "hip hop"? And hip hop is an african american based culture. But I still dont agree with it, but I also see where they are coming from. Most black males today do wear baggy and saggy clothes, and speak with ignorance daily...I was watching Extreme Home Makeover last night and there was a black family gettin a new home. The first thing they did when they saw the house was scream wildly and fall to the ground and act 10x more dramatic than a white family would. So its not a bad thing if you act black or white. Its just the way you act. The world will probably always be like this, its sad to say. And media and everyone else will dipict black and whites differently. Oh well...

Because this world is so freaking sterotypical. I agree with you. I think it should be why are you acting stupid etc. My daughter is straight A student and loves to ride skate boards and play drums and is in band and loves country music. Yet she wore black clothes and left her hair down and she was asked why are you acting "GOTH" LOL she was just not in the mood to do her hair and wanted to sleep to the last minute.

its just a stereotype, most "white" people see blakc as acting "gangsta" and in a negative form, mostly from the rappers out there. i mean u see people like 50 cent and snoop dogg, and they dont set a good example for the black community. granted not all are like that. its just a stereotype and to act white and proper is because from the beginning of this country whites were always proper and it helped throughout the past to see a white man as proper. it is wrong to do either one.

It's considered acting black because white people associate pants worn below the butt, having a grill and poor grammar as being black, probably from all the rap videos on MTV. Black comedians have always considered black people who use good grammar and dressing appropriately to be acting white. Your guess is as good as mine. LOL.

Well some people think white people are really stuck up especially at my school.If you were a white person student going to my school and you were caught acting black we would beat you sensually.Because we really don't want white people cramping our style.But when we black people acted white they make it a big deal because we want to be somebody and get somewhere in life and not sell drugs and get in trouble all the time.People in today's society think black kids are less teachable and dumb while on the other hand white kids are more teachable and likely to get somewhere in life.But this is my opinion on it because I have to live in it and watch it go on.
I see this happening all the time at my school. Me personally, seeing a white person "acting black" kind of makes me laugh, only because if they could be black for a day they wouldn't be able to survive, they would have a nervous break down by the end of the day. The reason for why they are "acting black" is because all they see is the commercialized way of black life and black culture, they don't see past that. Most of the white kids that are acting black usually dress like gansta rappers like 50 cent, The Game, and Snoop , you don't see them dressing and acting like Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and Common. As far as acting white, I really don't think it exist any more because it seems like everything in culture is starting to be influenced by African Americans. I shop at Hollister, AE, Aeropostal, Charlotte Russe, Up Against the Wall, Downtown Locker Room, and many more.......So does shopping at Hollister, AE, and Aeropostal make me seem like I'm acting white? To me acting white is losing touch with your personal identity of your race, almost like denying it, and those are the people that are ignorant.
its because people associate black people with baggy clothes, slang talk, and being ignorant. people associate white people correct english, educated, and clothes that fit.
