Okay...Are there any requirements to be respected as an emcee?!

Question: I know people who wont listen to an artists if they went to a good school...or graduated from college. I have seen artists from suburban communities get disrespected by others who say they are not "Real"...So I ask ..are there any requirements to be respected as an emcee. Is it okay to not be from the hood, or to have not had to struggle or hustle?....Is it okay to be from a good background or hang with preppy kids and still be an emcee? Let me know how you feel....also if you know of any emcees already out there like this..provide examples or links...I am trying to get the young community to understand that you can be you...and still be respected....Help me help them...LOL

I can't speak for everyone, but for me being from the hood has nothing to do with it. Some are, some aren't - it's skills that count. Look at someone like Chuck D, he was raised by a middle class family in the suburbs, and he's made a huge impact on hip hop. The important thing is though, he doesn't prentend he's gangsta. If it's fake, then it's not hip hop.I don't care if you grew up in Beverly Hills or The Bronx, as long as you're real, you have skills, flow and a mastery of your style.
In the words of Dead Prez:

If you check 1,2, my word of advice to you is just relax
Just do what you got to do, if that dont work then kick the facts
If you a fighter, rider, bouter , flame ignitor, crowd exciter
Or you wanna just get high, then just say it
But then if you a liar-liar, pants on fire, wolf-cry agent with a wire
Im gonna know it when I play it

First off, know what an emcee is. Second, what are you rapping???? Im white, i went to school in the hood, that dont make me a better rapper than you. You have to ENTERTAIN, you have get inside the crowds head. You have to PREACH like a pastor on sunday morning. BODY LANGUAGE. NUMBER ONE THING, DO NOT LIE!!! Do not have a ghostwriter, dont drop the N-Bomb, try to talk a little crap about YOURSELF to DRAW ATTENETION.

Now what are you rapping,

Hip Hop???

or the young jeezy bs???

your better off with hip hop
gl

thsi is a weird question but I'll try to help you out,

1st off who cares where you're from in the game, Clinton Sparks is not from the hood, he's in the game big time right.
2nd if you're whack it doesn't matter what hood up throw up no bodies feeling you
lastly, trying to get these dumb *** kids to understand that you dont have to be going around kickin doors in to be respected, would without a doubt be a waste of your time, this generation is and will always be about the no snitching, shootin up the club, and the flavor of love bs, I try not to pay any attention to them because it would make me as lame as they are , so there if MC'ing is your thing keep doing what you do and don't worry about these lame's because convo with them will steal your knowledge
