I play it with pure fingerpicking, but in the actual recorded version it is actually semi-strummed (bass note pick, followed by strum). There's a video on YouTube that demonstrates how to do this.

You'll pick up enough from these videos to figure it out, but there is no "right" version really - it's more fun to do your own. And it's possible to do an entirely fingerpicked version that sounds good too.
