The Gibson Explorer(AKA X-Plorer and Explorer Pro)Is an electric guitar modeled be Gibson Guitar Corp,its a solid body guitar with a set neck and 2 humbuckers.The woods used are Mahogany or Korina for the body and neck,and rosewood or ebony for the fret board(which happens to have 22 frets)

Good tone, good playability IMO.
I love explorers. They are really solid, nice sounding guitars, and they are pretty much appropriate for any style of music. The only thing I don't like about them, is that they are NOT made for somebody who plays sitting down alot. If you sit down with them, they feel a little awkward. If you are a stander, no worries then, go for it. I think it would be an excellent Christmas money investment.

Sounds similar to a les paul. A great posing guitar! If you can afford one of them I'd go for it. As the guy above says, it's an awkward beast to play sitting down.
