Cave, dear, it was Tony Douglas, in 1973. He had two other hits, "His and Hers" and "Thank You for Touching My Life."

could it have been "my last date" by skeeter davis? another possible would be "my last day on earth" by steven curtis chapman.

Isawmarty is correct in that Mr. Nice Guy Tony Douglas recorded that song in the 70's. The song did quite well for Tony. Tony still resides in Athens, Texas and has his own studio called Cochise Records. Tony is one of the nicest gentleman you would ever want to meet and that's why he is known as "Mr Nice Guy" He also recorded some other great songs like "His And Hers","Thank You For Touching My Life" among others. I haven't got it on a 45 but I do have it on an LP. All three songs are on that LP. Funny you speak of Wayne Kemp as I always thought he was a pretty good singer and writer. I recall a song he had called "Hello, Im A Jukebox" and in the song he was speaking as a jukebox and relating what all he saw in the bar. Great song if you haven't heard it.
