Ok there are two issues here. The first - the choice of material. - I'll work on this first.

So far as people on Yahoo answer are concerned - it's quite obscure. I know it but then i was in les mis for a while but let's face it the opening does not appear in the piano vocal scores. I imagine the first anyone on here recognised was "on my own..."This does not say anything about you, more about the people who are judging the p[erformance of a passage of music they don't know.

This is not intended to have a go at anyone, but if people do not know the music in question they cannot judge.

So far as the singing is concerned:
I would imaging, both from the level of backgrund noise and the general tone quality, that this was sung at a general mumble rather than projected quality - this answers the question about support and placement before it is asked. Is there potential - of course. It was an acceptable sound but produced by bad technique. Think about it - thays much better than a bad sound produced by good technique.

Find a vocal coach to help you work on breathing, support, placement, and a whole list of other things that we singers need to take on board, and as your technique gets better so will your sound.

Good luck

Sounds a bit like she's speaking. But she might have potential.

it sounded like she was talking not singing.

yes. you should only train if she has the motivation to become a better singer. "If there is a will, there is a way."

she sounds a bit nasal but i think she has potential if she gets some lessons.

needs some lessons but has potential

Unfortunately, what most people don't realize is that a lot that the studios are looking for is someone to exploit, not someone with talent (The latest crap with Brit. Spears being a good example)...take a look at:

http://www.beforethemusicdies.com/

Most people who don't have voice training ruin their voices at a young age because of a lack of training. The best shot she has at making a living is getting training and then going to an arts college for voice. Those people don't always get the glam that mass-media stars do, but they are able to perform better and they are much more respected. That and they can spend a lifetime making a job of what they love instead of just doing it for a few years then being a has-been.

Because the Ninja of Love knows the importance of beautiful music to make the world go 'round.

yea just need a little bit of trainning

It's okay... it might have potential with training.

needs lessons. sings thru her nose.

umm. It's pretty plain, but quite sweet.

I'm sorry, but my honest opinion is that her voice isn't worth training.

Sorry to say it, but she needs alot of training. And stop with the "Does my friend" crap, we all know it's really you.

Definately. She hits the notes fine. She just needs to work on anunciation, projecting, and dynamics. Lessons would benefit her more than she knows.

I think it is worth training. She also seems like she would be good at acting. She seems like a talented person.

no, it sounds like she is humming lol
training would improve it alot, dont worry about what other people think just do it

no it kinda sounds like she is talking she has a good voice if she got some singing lessons then she probaly would

Your friend is a lovely girl, but as a singer, I do NOT belive she can cut it. It just isn't there in my opinion.

ummm....i think that if she wants to be a singer then shes goin to have to work on it.....but thats my opinon.

Ummm...I actually wouldn't say that it has that unusual of a sound, but it HAS POTENTIAL. There are some major pitch problems there, and very little emotion is being put into the lyrics. Not much in the way of tone or resonance, either....

To be completely honest, she is a very poor singer----though singing lessons would, I am sure, help her to improve quickly. If she's interested in that, please tell her that she can sing well one day but needs a lot of coaching and practice.

Training would help. She needs to really open her vocal chords cos the sound is getting stuck. Try singing in the bathroom as loud as you can to see how it feels and sounds when the sound is being projected. You never know what you might find....

Whether itr's you or your friend ,sounds like there is a lot of potential .She has a natural vibrato and good control of it in knowing when to use it.It's never easy to sing in accapello, but let it out and sing out from your diaphram cause you're not trying to put a baby to sleep.Keep practicing and you'll succeed.

Ok to be honest no , she doesnt have potential.

her voice will mature if she hasn't gone through puberty yet.

Honestly. I did talent scouting before and she'd be passed up.

Perhaps with a lot of training and work she would be better...atleast good enough to do some stuff

But hey look at paris hilton and brittany spears and miley cyrus..

but then again they all have famous backgrounds

work on it. but as of now shes bad.

out of tune, bad tempo and just bad. sorry .
being honest

No. Even in the part where your friend is "singing", she appears to be tone-deaf. However, if she is adamant about wanting to learn singing I recommend you direct to her www.solfege.org. This site provides an excellent free software that both trains the ear and teaches the solfege system of sight-singing.

Hope this helps.

to my ears she has a sweet voice.. and therefore has something to train !!
