John Lennon was a million times better than the "king".
Elvis for sure. I don't like John Lennon, i don't see anything special in his songs. And if you're going to ask a question like this, you shouldn't compare both artists, even you said John wrote songs and Elvis didn't so why compare. You should use someone else that wrote songs to compare to John. There are many others out there.
But Elvis is the King and even though he didn't write his songs, he's still the best. Not even John can top him.
Definitely Elvis. How many girls still get all mushy over Lennon? Elvis will always make the girls melt with his looks and his voice.

When it comes down to music, I have to agree with you, Lennon. His music had such intellectual depth.
That's a tough one.
Although Elvis is known as the one that started it all and brought the entire feel of rock and roll, I don't think he wrote any of the songs himself. And if he did it was nothing compared to the number he preformed. Lennon wrote some of the most memorable songs of all time, and there is no need to mention beatle mania.
It's close but I'm going to say Elvis.
It's got to be Elvis. He's the one who blazed the trail for everyone else that followed. See, before Elvis and when Elvis was making it big, NOBODY had ever heard that sound of music that he created. No other artist oozed sexuality in their performances either. And it's not like he saw someone else doing something similar and tried to spin it another way....No! Elvis was natural in his sound and his performances. He's the first one to break away from the microphone stand and really MOVE. People had never seen anything like it. Coming from a very "buttoned up" society and time, the whole country and world were blown off their feet!! He was a TRUE performer and artist; a natural!
