Melodic Death Metal? Not a chance!
They could be considered melodic death metal, but it would be a misnomer.
Metalcore is, simply put, a combination of many characterisics of hardcore and melodic death metal. While many metalcore bands lean towards either side of the spectrum, killswitch are right near the median, incorperating many hardcore elementals, much moreso than, for example, Heaven Shall Burn.
So, melodic death metal wouldn't be a bad label for them, although metalcore would be more accurate.
