PLEASE HELP, How can I sing like this without straining?!

Question: How can I sing like this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-O8xA1Uj...
Or like Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, etc..

1) I think they call it "belting"? Maybe not, but I want to learn how to sing like with a RICH, FULL tone. Right now, whenever I sing and try to go higher, I feel myself straining my voice and holding in all this tension. But I want to know how to reach higher notes and sound amazing, like the video above (just an example). She sounds like she's FULLY letting it out. How do people do that? Is it actually yelling?

2) Also, how do I know if I'm using my diaphram to sing? I know everyone says that that is the proper way to sing, but even though my chest & shoulders aren't moving, I still don't feel like I'm singing like the video above. =/

Thank you SO MUCH in advance for your help!
I truly appreciate it.

I used to have the same problem as you. So listen to me when I say, do NOT use your chest voice to sing the higher notes. It will hurt and you could end up like me - it came to a point where I couldn't even whisper a song without getting a sore throat.

The best way to 'belt' those high notes is to use your mixed voice. It happens when you mix your head voice with your chest voice. If your mixed voice is strong, you'll get the sound that Christina aguilera, Alicia Keys, ekaiann and many other great singers have. When they sing those high notes they use their mixed voice.

At first I couldn't find my mixed voice and it was very frustrating. I don't know if you're like me, but if you don't know how to use your mixed voice, I strongly recommend the Singing Success programme. I had a noticeable improvement in my voice after only the first lesson. I finally found my mixed voice and it changed my life.

Trust me, I've done ALOT of research over the last 5 years and there's no other better or faster way to improve your voice then Singing Success.

All the best for you and I hope I helped somehow:)

Hey,
I think that belting and singing in your chest voice are pretty much the same thing. So in order to reach higher notes singing like this, it just takes practice. You need to develop your vocal range if you plan on reaching high notes like this. And don't be afraid to be loud when you sing these notes. If you hold back, you are closing and constricting your vocal chords and the sound cannot escape and reach that rich sound you were talking about. As for the diaphragm, it's just using your stomach to sing. This involves a lot of breath support. Each time you take a break from singing to get some breath, you must fill up your lungs with as much air as you can. Push the sound forward.
But when you are singing in this style, you must be careful not to oversing. Be sure to rest your voice often--basically don't sing like this for hours straight or your voice wil be shot. I hope this was helpful to you...

u might not be able to hit high notes cuz that is how ur voice is....u could be an alto bcuz not every1 can hit high notes and to get ur voice like that u have to have practice and when u breathe while singing my chorus teacher said to expand ur stomach when u breathe in hope it helps=D
