if referring to the song "american pie" it was richie valens and buddy holly in a plane crash. but that was in either late 50's or early 60's. I have no idea of the 1937 date.
Fool For Tommy's correct. Jimmie Rodgers died in 1933, not 1937. The International Country Music Conference is commemorating the 75th anniversary of his death this year.
