Why did Kanye West get away with it and not the Dixie chicks?!

Question: One of the girls from the dixie chicks criticized the president on the war in Iraq and it got a lot of controversy however when Kanye West made his statement about George bush not liking black people it didn't cause as big as a controversy as the dixie chicks ... Is it because the Dixie chicks are white women that got more attention and Kanye West being black that got less attention?

I think people (especially white people) are too afraid to speak out against or disagree with something a black person says when it relates to race. They're afraid of being branded a racist or at least a sympathizer. And with People like whack job Al Sharpton who attacks everything even remotely race related, I can understand why. I do not like the president at all, but I do not agree with what Kanye said. I think it was an immature and ignorant statement said out of anger towards Bush's inaction. He would have been more correct in saying Dubya doesn't like, nor care about poor people. Plus, the Dixie Chicks are part of a community that is made up of many Bush supporters (country music) and the backlash came mostly from within. Kanye West, on the other hand, is part of the Hip-Hop community that has very few, if any, Bush supporters. Thus, he didn't receive much criticism.

because kanye west was probly right and hes known for doing outburst like that its kind of funny when he does it

Could be, could also be because at the time when the Chicks said it, Bush's approval rating was still up their. When Kanye said it.. His approval was way down and by that time no one really cared anymore.

I think it's because they are from Texas too, and they were in a forien land at the time they said it

I've wondered the same thing about P!nk (I love her music). Her song is very in-your-face about the President, and I've never heard any controversy over it.

well its cause rappers are expected to be contoversial whereas a country star is supposed to be well.... you know. Nice or whatever. Also may have something to do with the fact of being female, whether or not people are ready to admit it there's still quite a bit of sexism out there.

When the Confederate Floozie said it, Bush's "war" was popular. When Kanye "Graceful Loser" West said what he did, Bush had the lowest approval rating in governmental history.

I don't think it's race based. It's about people who should just shut up and sing, and having a President who somehow isn't getting impeached for starting a war on no merit.

Maybe, but also it had already been said and done. People still had respect for Bush when the Dixie Chicks made their statement. Now people look down on him more.

I don't know what he said or where ( I don't cotton to Hip-Hop), but you must remember that the whack job Disky Chuncks said their piece in a foreign country.... Bad form, that.
