That would be Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys. I have a story which may be of interest to you regarding Bob Wills. In about 1948 when I was five or six years old my dad and I, while in the car, came upon four guys in a broken down vehicle that had a small trailer hooked to it. My dad stopped to help and they had broken an axle. It was late on a Friday afternoon and any garages, etc. would have been closed. Motels were scare in that part of Texas so daddy asked the men if they would like to come to our house and spend the night and the next morning he would take them into Paris, about 40 miles away, to get the part they needed then help them make the repairs (believe it or not, life used to be that way). They accepted and we hooked onto the little trailer and pulled it along with us. We lived in very rural Red River County and once we had gotten home and everybody had eaten, the four guys went out to their trailer and got some musical instruments. They set up on our front porch and played a few songs for us and a few neighbors. The name "Bob Wills" meant nothing to me at that time, but I do remember that one of the guys upon whose lap I sat while in the car riding home had asked me my name. I told him it was "Tommy" and he said he had the same name. That, of course, would be Tommy Duncan. Bob Wills was one of the others and I haven't a clue as to who the other two were. My daddy knew though because he told that story for the rest of his life. He even received a handwritten letter from Mr. Wills thanking him for his help. During their overnight visit they were very nice and respectable to my mom and dad. I though they were really nice people. At least in my book, Bob Wills is the King of Western Swing!

B Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys

Bob Wills

Bob Wills

B- I believe it was Mr. Bob Wills of Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys (formerly the Light Crust Doughboys)

Originally it was Spade Cooley, then Bob Wills

Most fans would say B; however, if you ask Spade Cooley, the answer is E. Cooley had the nickname "King of Western Swing;" however, it was a title he gave himself. Given that he dubbed himself, I'd deduct points from the title on general principle.

b - Bob Wills. The band Asleep at the Wheel did a song called "Bob Wills is Still the King" as a tribute to him.

b-b-b-Bob to the Bone.
Hey Richard, that's a Waylon Jennings song, AATW might have covered it, but it's Waylon, has a minor hit with it in the early-mid 70s.

Both Bob Wills and Spade Cooley were known as the King Of Western Swing. Oops--I don't normally repeat correct answers-didn't scroll down before answering this.

e none of the above the best thing in texas is the DALLAS COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
