Get the lyrics for a half-dozen of your favorite rock songs. Read them, and ask yourself how they make you feel. What is something that you feel strongly about? Which of your favorite songs really matches how you feel? Take that song, keep the melody, and rewrite the lyrics. It's not really your song, but its a good excercise to get the juices flowing - matching notes to words is more art than science.
If you play an instrument, start with a similar chord progression from a song you like in a key you can sing, but try to play it in a different rhythm. Now try singing something new over this progression.
Doing this will help you learn what keys you can sing in, and which chords you like to sing over best.
If you're talking only instrumentally, basically do the same thing, but without the lyrics. Keeping playing with the chords and melodies and riffs - sooner or later you will hear a variation that sounds "fresh" to you or unique. Go from there.
Now, as far as the inspiration part of it, that's something that's harder to plan out. Inspiration can come from anywhere - I like to listen to music, read books, look at art, go for walks, go to shows. These are all things that give me ideas, and those ideas turn into songs.
Well, some of them. Most of them turn into noodly nothings. =) Fun, nonetheless.

Write about your personal feelings or emotions or find somthing that pisses you off or inspires you.
Think about something you are passionate about. I always write music first and lyrics after, but I know a lot of people who do it the other way around. Start with a simple musical concept and gradually expand upon it until you have many parts (verse, chorus, bridge, etc) Have fun and good luck

I write my songs on emotion and life exsprience but in fictiouse ways so nobody nos what i am trying to get across unless i want to tell them
Maybe thats how you could right your songs and start them based off of your life exspriences hard times in your life and what ever

There are only three things that a GOOD rock song can be about. 1. God 2.The Devil 3. Rock and Roll.
write down key words. know your purpose and what message you want to get across. rock tends to use a great deal of metaphors, similes, and other rhetorical devices.
Writing songs are FUN! You should first start with how you feel, or what you like, or even about a cat! Its your choice!
