Krupa's solo on the Goodman, Sing Sing Sing has never been equaled. Brought the house down at Carnegie Hall. He is the innovator of what for decades has been known and sold as "A drum set!" Particular collaboration with Slingerland under his consultation and ideas. Also, Krupa was first to bring forth percussion/drums as and for solo work in an orchestra.

Yes he was great, drumming you could just listen to, great rhythm no need for other instruments but building up to great crescendo.s at the end.
You are just scratching the surface, grasshopper! Gene Krupa was good, but he was mostly show. Listen to Max Roach, Buddy Rich, Art Blakey, Kenny Clarke and Tony Williams and then tell me who you think is the greatest.
