Don't you hate when people ask/or answer like "dis" ?!

Question: Am I the only one annoyed by purposeful misspelling of words in an attempt to sound more hood. eg: dis, dat, dem, tha, dese.

I decided to ask this question in rap and hip-hop because I notice this is one of the places where it is most prevalent

Yes!!! I agree 1000% It is supposed to create some kind of effect I suppose, where they look hip, but it just looks stupid to me. Especially when they purposely use "z" at the end of wordz instead of "s". Ridiculous. As much as even text shortform bugs me, atleast I can see the logic behind it, but these ridiculous misspellings which in most cases don't save any typing at all are just annoying.

i hate it when people say that or type it!!! it's not even proper english.

yes any of that slang drives me nuts

eg, yo dog so was hangin and i was like what and he was like what..

yea so annoying, why would you want to make yourself seem stupid?

well idk but thats really how i talk so ya

some may be annoyed at the way you are so proper. but to answer your question no not really. It makes me feel good I know I can read/talk/type right!

I totally do! Thank you!

Datz so dum. I no wut ur sayn.

Yeah sometimes it can be annoying.

CUZ DEY ACT A FOOL11!!!

its kool

My eyes barely see it anymore. I just skip over it, like I skip over questions and answers that are completely in capitals.

I like to write things out. If someone uses short-hand, I'm OK with it as long as I can figure out what they're talking about.

If it's nonsense, I'll ask them to stop.

yeah i hate that as well.......... its not even proper english....... wtf going ghetto on the web... i mean typing wise do they actually talk like that in real life as well or is it they cant spell so they say dis instead of this........

That's because the people answering in that section are younger generation and type text speak.

I KNOW!!!! What annoys me most is when people misspell lose though, and spell it "loose". I mean, it might not be on purpose like the "hoods", but its freakin annoying!! LOOSE means something's not tight, LOSE is when you don't win people!

But, people will be people. If those people who think they're ghetto and hood want to misspell words on purpose, then let them.

I don't hate anything. Live with it.

>It's apparently a cultural thing to be an outcast if you don't at least pretend to be stupid. Thankfully, the whole genre is beginning to fade...many will remember how to speak English again.<

Me! I absolutely hate it, it drives me barmy. Or when people type in text talk as well. It's just lazy.

i agree that is it annoying and un professional, to most it sounds dis respectful, and not trying really to help

for others it is a way of abreviation. i mean alot of people dont like to write very much and save time so they use things such as fav. or dat.

i understand what you mean, and i agree the point you are trying to get through. but sometimes like i said it is an abreviation, to shorten the words people dont want to take the time writing out, i mean they are already taking time tryingt o aser your Question, abreviating shouldnt be that bad?

hope you got MY point of view just like i got YOURS.

-NIKKI?

l8r
hope you get what you need

Who cares this not a place where you have to type proper. some ppl just don't want to type all the words. out doesn't mean they don't use proper English. Now that's just an absent minded opinion. Honestly I think you are mad b/c sometimes you don't understand it.

yes l do hate lt

Yes. Its rather vexing. Granted that I have a bit of an accent when I speak, I would never incorporate into a sentence. (at least not intentionally)

I know how you feel! I hate that too.

AnD DoNt U HaTe It WhEn ThEy Do ThIs ToO?

I know that annoys the heck out of me.

Whats wrong ,a letter out of place throws you off... lol

It's pretty irritating, and to be honest I have a little trouble reading it, at the ripe old age of 25 I can no longer understand what the "youth" are trying to say.
A little depressing, no?

yeah of course
I agree with alma k.

ya some dudes take it overboard but for the most part I do that its cause that how i really talk in real life....and if I spelled erything I say all proper an sh&t it would be unrealistic portrayal of myself....If im not writing a formal letter or trying to articulate a well written point to somebody important or anything then it really doesnt matter....if you writing all your sh&t correctly punctuated and gramatically error-free on an informal forum then you just a square buddy (exceptions would be the politics, maths and science and language arts forums here).....real talk...you prolly the type of kid that would fix your bed before you went to sleep cause you found it messy late at night....lol

While I can agree to a certain extent to what you are saying, I'm not sure that I agree that you label this as "ghetto". I know plenty of people from the ghetto that I went to college and grad school with that are very educated that would never write or talk like that. I think what you are saying is that they are undereducated, or they simply don't give a sh*t. It's mostly young kids that don't think of grammar and dialect as an important tool to get you ahead in society and yes it's sad, because that's our future.

I am a hip-hop fan and I'm 14.

I hate the people who speak like that.

I write in perfect English and gramer.
