How to use a guitar tab?!

Question: E|-------------------------------|
B|-------------------------------|
G|------0------------------0---|
D|----0---0-------------0---0-|
A|-------------------------------|
E|-3------------------3--------|

how would that be played?
i was told that the string w/the number would be played only, so it isn't a note(?).
like the E, only that STRING would be played, but how?
what do the 0's stand for?
i know open string but i don't get it. i mean, what fret is played?
please help, i'm kinda new to this.
i've tried websites and i still don't get it.
detailed as possible would help :).

For this particular tab, it's played like this...

The number 3 represents fret number 3 on the first and fattest string, which is the E string. Put one finger on the third fret, count downward from the top... 1 2 3. Place your finger there, and pluck it. Then what you want to do is pluck the D and G string without fretting the note. Ok.... 0 would mean, open. Open means... you don't have to press down on it. Pressing down on it, is called fretting a note. So.... That tab that you have shown here, is a representation of your guitar. Each line on this tab, and on every tab.. represents each string on your guitar. The line that has a 3 on it, will be the thickest string on your guitar, which is called the Low E. Next to the low E is the A, then the D, G, B, and last is the high E, which is the thinnest string. On this partiular tab, you're only plucking three strings. Which is the Fat E, D, and G. You want to hit each one, one at a time. E will be plucked first with your finger on the third fret of E. Then you will hit the third string, which is D, but this time it has a 0 on it, so you don't have to fret it, which means you dont have to press your finger on it. 0 would means it is open. After plucking D, you now want to pluck G. So.... the tab goes like this.... You will want to pluck the string in this exact order... ready? E D G D E D G D... Do you see what I'm talking about? The lines with numbers on them, must be hit in order, from the closest one to you. For example: E is the closest, then D, then G, then back down to D again.

The 0 just means you hit the string with out fretting it.

The Strings that don't have any numbers on them, are the ones that are not meant to be hit.

This TAB is a tab that is meant to pluck single strings one at a time. E D G D one at a time. E D G D, it's just repeated...

Remember, with this tab, you're only pressing down with only ONE finger, which is the Low E string. You're only pressing down with one finger on the third fret of E. Everything else is open.. you're only plucking four strings in this whole song. One at a time. Good Luck!

The lines represent the strings on your guitar and the numbers represent which fret you put your finger on. So, to start you would put your finger on the third fret(counting down from the head of the guitar)on the E string. When there's a 0 you strum that string without putting your finger on a fret.

Wherever there is a number, you play. for the E, you will put your finger on the third fret and strum. Then you will strum D,G,D (just strum, don't put your non strumming hand anywhere). If there is a 0, just strum, don't put your finger on a fret.
