Is "Don't fear the reaper" about suicide or does it have a greater!

Question: Interesting how music, like all art forms can be interpreted in such different ways..
for me the song was all about vampires!!!
about a vampire seducing a woman to follow him into his world, of eternal life after death...
it had never occurred to me it was about suicide...
I love the song, it is one of the best Blue Oystercult songs, and one of the best of the whole generation. it still sounds so new and fresh after over 30 years.... amazing
bye

I think it was just sort of a Romeo - Juliet - gone - modern thing

"I felt that I had just achieved some kind of resonance with the psychology of people when I came up with that, I was actually kind of appalled when I first realized that some people were seeing it as an advertisement for suicide or something that was not my intention at all. It is, like, not to be afraid of it (as opposed to actively bring it about). It's basically a love song where the love transcends the actual physical existence of the partners." - Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser

Blue Oyster Cult is my second fave band of all time..I know every song they ever did.
To me...yeah pretty much it's about suicide.

And I surely wish radio programmers the World over would realize that that, Godzilla, and Burning For You are not the only three songs BOC ever did

God I hate wikipedia answers! If you look at the lyrics and know a little about the artistic meanings of some of the words you'll find that it's nothing more than a love song.

The reaper is a reference to the Grim Reaper, a traditional personification of death in European-based folklore. Lyrics such as "Romeo and Juliet are together in eternity" have led many listeners to interpret the song to be about a murder-suicide pact, but Dharma says the song is about eternal love.

of course it has a better meaning

if you listen to the lyircs of the song, you will know what he is singing about

romeo and juliet are together in eternity

and you shouldn't fear a reaper or of course something that your afraid of

listen to the lyrics one more time
