Tool or A Perfect Circle?!

Question: It's hard for any band to beat Tool's first three albums, both in range, in subject matter, in creativity, anything. I am not a big fan of Tool's latest stuff... they've got some great "epic" stuff, like their cover of 'No Quarter' or 'The Grudge', but there's also a lot of spacey and ambient stuff, and their albums now don't have the same cohesiveness I remember hearing "back in the day". That's the price you pay for artistic freedom, though, and I don't respect them any less.

A Perfect Circle's first album, to me, showed the signs of songs that weren't honed on the road. There's a difference between songs that are played night after night then recorded versus songs that don't go through that baptism of fire. I like the album, and I think it's very good - it has an artistic quality to it that I think is very admirable. Reproducing those songs would be a nightmare to someone like me, just because without some of those sounds it wouldn't be the same. That takes something away from a song like 'The Hollow'. I didn't get into the 2nd or 3rd albums very much, except for a few tracks here and there. Not bad, just not what I wanted at that point in my life.

There's no wrong answer, but I'll have to pick Tool. There's something about being able to strip a song down to its very barest essentials and getting the most possible mileage out of them that really gets me, and that's what songs like "H" and "Opiate" and the like really have going for them in my eyes.

I am a musician, and am slowly undergoing a "back to basics" renaissance - keep it simple, make it sound good with as little as is necessary. This biases me strongly in my view, I think, but it is nonetheless how I feel.

Tool

Tool.

Tool

I was just discussing this with my wife last week. I like both, but prefer Tool over A Perfect Circle. She feels the same way. We both consider A perfect Circle kinda like Tool "Light".

I'm taking APC on this one, though by the slimmest of margins. Both acts are great and there really isn't a wrong answer here.

Tool hands down. A Perfect Circle doesn't do it for me. Especially old school tool

Can't it be both? :)
Tool has a slight lead, but not by much.

It's pretty close, but I'm gonna say TOOL because they have more material.

I think Im gonna have to flip a coin on this one - too hard to decide. Call it in the air!!!

I like A Perfect Circle way better.

Both

Definately Tool, but APC has it's moments, for sure!

Both

Tool

It's a tough choice, but I'm gonna lean to A Perfect Circle on this one. I reserve the right to change my mind on this though, lol.

Tool for musicianship
APC for songs
