Will Ska music ever become massive again?!

Question: like it did in the 80's

Answers: like it did in the 80's

I don't think it will ever be massive.
But I think it can be a successful minor genre like jazz or bluegrass.

There are several obstacles that have to be overcome first.

1) There needs to be a more unified definition of what ska is.
Ska cannot mean The Skatalites to one person and Catch-22 to another.

My personal definition of ska is :
Ska is a genre of syncopated music with Jamaican origins.

2) A new generation of young people need to find out about ska music. Joining the Ska Spot Network is a great way to meet other ska fans.

3) Middle Schools and High Schools need an active music program. Most ska bands have a horn section, right?
If you school doesn't have a music corriculum, see if VH1's "Save The Music" can help you get one going.

Europe is so much more receptive to ska music and as a result they have big ska festivals.

We can too.

No.

Ska wasn't even 'massive' in the 80s. Which is ashame, because it's a lot of fun, and a totally under-appreciated musical genre.

Lets hope so! Ska music is without doubt the best style of music ever. The sorry thing is most people don't even know what ska music is :-(

Probably not. It seems like the Ska music was more of a regional fad, more popular out West than out East. With that and so much of the music scene tied in with MTV and "American Idol" popularity, something like Ska tends to be more of a “one hit wonder.”
