"Livin'" by The Clarke Sisters.
"Part of me" by En Vogue.
"Kissing You" by Total.
The reason I included The Clarke Sisters is because I love their voices, and I really loved the sound of that song "Livin'". It was one of my favorite songs of last year.
Good question... the word "group" eliminates a ton of great music by solo female artists.. so, let me think...
- "Love Child" by The Supremes... (classic 60's lesson/story song, still important today... like with he Spears sisters, etc.)
- "Take It Off" by The Donnas (great fast-moving pop song that may not be well-know now, but has to be well-regarded... especially that it wasn't as easily titilating, as the title would lead you to believe)
- "Our Lips are Sealed" by the Go-Go's (although not the musicians of the Donnas, you have to recognize the mega-sales and impact on the music scene... with a smart, pop song that was tailor made for the MTV world of the early 80's and paved the way for all-girl "acts" that followed like well, better musicians like The Donnas, then produced acts like Destiny's Child, Spice Girls, Bangles, Bananarama, etc. etc.)....)
Hon. mention -- "Soldier Boy" & He's So Fine" Shirelles, "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes... great all-time songs, but again... produced for them, the performed it -- but didn't create it themselves, as was done with all 3 above. "Love Child" was an idea of the women in The Supremes, at least.
