and pp is pianisimo

but what is ffp < (creshendo) subpp

Hahaha that IS a mouthful.

Well, it means play fortissimo on the beginning of the note, but right after you blast the first part, suddenly get quiet, then crescendo into the next note, but instead of the next note being loud, it's suddenly quiet.

Do you play trumpet? Because trumpets see these a lot.

ff: fortissimo

ffp: forte piano (never seen fortissimo piano but could be!)

<: crescendo

subpp: subito pianissimo
