What Makes 80's Rock/Pop Music So Good?!

Question: I really like Hall & Oates, Huey Lewis and the News, Duran Duran, and Johnny Hates Jazz.

Answers: I really like Hall & Oates, Huey Lewis and the News, Duran Duran, and Johnny Hates Jazz.

the diversity, not one artist in the 80's sounded like another they all had their own thing, now a days it's all the same, Justin Timberlake sounds like Chris Brown sounds like Usher sounds like Akon. Atleast back then, each one of them had their own thing and it was refeshing to listen to each artists songs because they weren't the same thing over and over again!

The musicians were true to themselves and the indusrty didnlt try to change them. That and you could understand the lyrics.

I don't think anyone knows just *what* it is that makes it so good, but it was damn catchy!

Robert Palmer
Stevie Nicks
Eurythmics
The Cult
Dire Straits
The Police
etc...

I know some of these started before the 80's, but they had some huge hits in that decade.

Two of my favorite bands got big in the 80's. U2 and Dire Straits. I think it's because of how the music industry has changed. Now there's a new Band of the Week all the time who has one hit CD and vanishes. It's easier to get a deal and get music to the masses. Back then fans stuck with a band, and they had time to mature and be cultured by record labels.

the variety. We didn't need Alternative back then because there were so many Alternatives. I like Big Country, Quiet Riot, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, the Cars, J. Geils Band, DEVO, Van Halen.......well, I guess there isn't a lot of it that, I don't like. I'm a regular visitor to vh1classic.com they have a pretty big 80's video collection.

GOOD!!! That is the last word I would use to describe that crap!!! It was the age of when all rockers started to give up drugs and we had a HUGE decline in what rock music should be!!! Let's be thankful that they went back on them in the 90's!!!!

Because thats when people made music because they loved the music and took the time to write good songs and make the music good. Now it's just throw some shyt together and make money.

I love Huey Lewis, I grew up listening to him because my mom liked him x]
but Its most likely because the record industry didn't try to change them, they were less shallow than they are today.
