How does Eddie Van Halen do that finger tapping technique?!

Hold down the third fret with your left index finger.
Do a pull off with your right index finger on 10, hammer on the fifth fret with your left middle finger or ring finger(still holding down 3 with your index,) then hammer on your right index finger on 10 again.
hope this helps. Once you get the basic technique down, you can play with other notes. Its fun.
It is easiest to go "up" in pitch rather than down. (Otherwise you would have to do all pull-offs and that is more technically advanced.--TMI, I know)
are u doing it on acoustic or electric?if electric are u plugged or unplugged

i assume you have the basic technique down and are using your inde finger, try using your middle finger and press down hard and don't worry about speed, eventually you will get faster till you are ripping through eruption
