Question: First of all, I'm not an expert & I'm not sure I understand why you're focusing on Gibsons
- I've seen tons of Fender Strats with 3-pickups, but they've been in the hands of accomplished musicians. It really depends what variety of sounds your after, I think...
- Regardless of what brand or model, you can always have a pickup added; and to the best of my knowledge, Humbuckers have always had an outstanding reputation.
- The guitars you mentioned are all terrific - I think the Flying-V is more for looks than sound...
- Another thing to consider is "how heavy" are you willing for your guitar to be -- Les Pauls weigh more the the SG version of the same (that's why the SG was made). While I think that Strats have maybe the "purist" sound around, I prefer the "rough" & "rawness" that a Les Paul provides.
- There is Member called "the buffster" that knows a lot more about guitars than me - hopefully you can talk to him.

haha not sure if you can rate a guitar on pickups alone but I've got the dual humbuckers and they're great
False , but I prefer 2 humbuckers, or 2 and a middle single
