Some good works by famous composers for winds or wind ensemble include:

Mozart Serenades Nos. 10, 11, and 12 for winds.
Mendelssohn's Overture for Band
Holst's First Suite in Eb and Second Suite in F for Band
Berlioz's Grand Symphony for Band
R. Vaughn Williams' Folk Song Suite, and Toccata Marziale
Wagner's Trauersinfonie

Percy Grainger -in addition to Lincolnshire Posey - Irish Tune from County Derry , Molly on the Shore and Colonial Song among others.

Stravinsky's Symphony for Wind Instruments, and Concerto for Piano and Wind Orchestra.

Strauss' Symphony for Wind Instruments
V. Persichetti's Divertimento, and Symphony for Band

Musician, composer, director.

try some pieces by Strauss

Symphonic Band
Wind Ensemble
Concert Band

Depends on the group of instruments and the type of music . The United States Marine band is one of the best "Symphonic Bands" world wide and they have a nice little write up about the history of band music on their site:

many classical composers wrote for just "winds" but they'll usually use the winds and brass of the orchestra so you get double reeds (oboe and bassoon) instead of the saxophone family. Mozart wrote excellent music for this setting.

I like Bach On Air

The first movement of Janeck's "Sinfonietta" calls for brass and kettledrum only.
At first, Janecek had the piece in mind as a single-movement band composition, but he later changed his mind.
Beethoven composed 4 marches, a polonaise, and an ecossaise for wind ensemble.
Vincent Persechetti wrote a symphony for wind ensemble.
Probably the best-known concert band piece is "Fanfare for the Common Man" by Aaron Copland.
