Can someone describe dance and music styles in the eighties :)?!

Question: dance music: in the early 80's still was disco with abba and boney m. yet the house music started it's formation with it's pioneering dj Frankie Knuckles. also there was new wave or new romantic music, that included duran duran, soft cell, ultravox, depeche mode, culture club and others.
rock music: in the early 80's started post-punk music: the cure, nick cave, Siouxsie and the Banshees, echo & the bunnymen, etc. also, of course, there still was main stream rock: the police, u2, meat loaf, bruce springsteen, and others.
with the post-punk started alternative, indie rock (the smiths, the pixies, house of love), dark wave or gothic rock (the sisters of mercy, the mission, bauhaus, the birthday party).
heavy metal (ac/dc, def leppard, metallica, guns'n'roses), hard rock.
and of course, there was pop music, with madonna, cindy lauper, men without hats, laid back and others.
also, there was jazz music, new age (jean michael jarre, vangelis), experimental, classical (Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo).
sometimes, of course, it is hard to classify the artist strictly as one or other genre, but in total it's something like that.
