Dark Depressing music? Whats up with that???!

Question: Ok, so i usually listen to R&B, some rap music. But I do like other genres of music too. I recently got Good Charlotte's new cd, I have never listened to them before till now. I like one song but it is hard for me to listen to the whole cd, its just too negative! Same thing with Linkin Park, great beats etc, but why is everything so negative and depressing?? We all have problems and cope with them in different ways, but at some point doesnt it reach a disgusting level of self pitty and selfish whining?

And Linkin Park/ Good Charlotte are more like pop rock right? I hate to think what real hard rock is like.

For some people, the world isn't all rainbows and lollipops like it is for others. That "negative" music is actually having a positive effect on their lives by giving them something to relate to. There are a few groups who use pain as an image, and they can be pointlessly negative. Emo for example, is all about the image of being depressed and lonely. It's all for attention. But if it's music from artists like Nine Inch Nails or Korn, those groups actually have something to say.

you need to stop listening to crappy music.
linkin park, rap and good charlotte are awful. (except good charlotte's self-titled, it's very happy)

I am a positive hard working professional woman and I love music in a minor key. It puts me in touch with feelings that I wouldn't normally experience. Bands like Live, BOC,Warren Zevon, make my feel their gloom.
Different flavors appeal to different people.
Listen to what you like.

Yeah, it all sounds the same to me. Same lyrics, same chords, same corporate moneymaking scams. That's why I moved on to instrumental music!
I guess people may say the same thing about the stuff I listen to (that it all sounds the same), but it's better than that stuff in my opinion. It's all subjective ie DOWN TO THE LISTENER. Keep searching =oD

Dude, that music sucks. When I'm in a mood for sad music, I listen to the blues. It's actually meaning-full. Mostly I listen to Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Grateful Dead, The Doors, Mamas and the Papas. Just plain, happy, drug music.
Peace.

I love "dark depressing" music. And anyone who bad-mouths bands needs to shut up. Anyway, this music is either a way for the artist to vent OR way to connect with people going through hard times and just let them know that they aren't alone. There are also people that only listen to music that describes how they feel. Now me, I listen to this type of music almost 24/7 and I just love how it sounds.

Music is about expressing feelings and opinions, and personally I enjoy dark depressing music.

Just like rap music negitivity, rock does have a dark side. Many musicians use these strong emotional songs to conect with their fans.

Also, much of the music has a meaning that can be found in the lyrics or the videos. Look at Linkin Park's song "Breaking the Habit." It talks about the wrong he's done and how he has to stop. In Nickleback's song "If Everybody Cared", the video uses images of people that done good in the world.
