Are you referring to the oratorio 'the Dream of Gerontius' by Sir Edward Elgar? In this a man dies and is met by his guardian angel following that death. He is shown devils and then lead before a vision of the Almighty. As Elgar was a Roman Catholic and was setting a poem by the Catholic Cardinal Newman, it ends with the man going to purgatory. I can't agree with the theology, but the music is wonderful. The work is one of my favourites.
