Their Satanic Majesties Request?!

Question: What's your view on this album. I think it was an amazing album. if you give a listen you'll realize that's not really like Sgt. Pepper. I think at times it even becomes more abstract and diverse than it's Beatles counterpart.

The theme of TSMR's may have been similar to SP - Drug influenced songs, wide variety of music, colorful album covers, etc. But I agree, RS went further into their psychedelic bag of tricks than the Beatles did, but it backfired.

The timing was off, esp. with the release of Sgt Pepper as competition. Fans were looking beyond the psychedelic sounds. Had this album been released a year or two before, I'm sure it would have had better success.

The songs are quite enjoyable, "She's a Rainbow" being probably the most popular song from the album. Definitely an underrated album.

BTW, it is ironic that John & Paul sing backup on one of the songs - "Sing This All Together"

One of my favorite Stones albums. Haven't heard it in years but still remember all the songs.

I agree... for me The Rolling Stones were more influential to rock music and The Beatles for Pop culture...
Amazing guys who keep on performing after over 4 decades. I saw them in concert recently and was impressed how much fun they had and how much they project to the audience and do their act as if it were the very first time. Jagger running around from one extreme of the stage to the other in spite of the altitude in Mexico City ( 2500 m)That's love for the art........

I think
Their Satanic Majesties Request is a fantastic Stones album that never has and never will recieve it's due credit as being one of 1967's masterpieces on a par with Sgt Pepper's or Piper At the Gates Of Dawn

I agree with Darth in the fact that I believe TSMR will never get the credit it deserves as it was off the map from where most hardcore Stones fans dwell. Instead of staying within their blues based roots, they definitely dwelled into the psychadelic forum where I just don't see the vast majority of their fanbase going into. It is a fantastic record, definitely one of my favorite of theirs.

I rank it as one of the best. Take that and Exile on Main St., and you have possibly the most important stuff.
