Voice Range?!

Question: what do voice range notations mean? For example a Baritone with a voice range from A3 to D4 means what? I know notes and where they are on the piano but I don't understand the 3 and 4 or any numbers after the notes.

It's easy. A3 is the A in the 3rd octave on the piano (or from the far left) D4 is the D right next to middle C (4th D from the far left on the piano. And so on........ See that's not so bad

C4, for example is the fourth C from the far left of a full sized keyboard.

That kind of notation is known as scientific pitch notation. The numbers indicate in which octave the note in question is placed. Each time you come to the next C note, you go up a number. So, A3 to D4 would be the bottom space A (on the Bass Clef) to the D right after middle C.
