Take 5 is a great idea!

Here's the never fair list... it might not be your first choices... but they'll love em!

String of Pearls (Traditionally big band but you can do an arrangement).
A Train
How High the Moon
All of Me
What a Wonderful Wonderful World
Girl from Iponema
St. Louis Blues and/or Basin Street Blues
When I Fall in Love
Moonlight In Vermont
Sweet Georgia Brown
Tenderly
April in Paris
Bye Bye Blackbird

In the Mood (might be tough to pull off without trombones...)

I guess it depends on what you consider old ...what age group are you talking about? I am a musician and I do a lot of older music also.

I had to do this over the summer and these seemed to go pretty well for us:

Cantaloupe Island- Herbie Hancock
Watermelon Man
Shuffle TIme- Jamey Aebersold
Tootsie- Jamey Abersold

they worked pretty well, and you don't have to have 10 minute solos on each one

The older generation loves the standards.

Here's a few good ones that work well with a small band...
Stardust
Summertime
Embraceable You
All of You
I Got You Under My Skin
These Foolish Things
Polka Dots and Moonbeans
Body And Soul...

You can also search for the cheesy Rod Stewart albums that he released in the last few years. The titles are "the Great American Songbook" volumes (?). The songs on those albums are the classics that your party will be humming along to.
