I don't agree, I don't really like nirvana. I thought there were other awesome songs from that list the deserved to be on the top 20. I knew It'd come down to the Nirvana because people worship him, i really don't like his songs...!Nirvana had no influence on me, I'm just glad it's over! anyway, I was hoping for some cranberries or something, anything but Nirvana!
I'm not sure I agree with VH1 nor you... BUT I'd say that Baby Got Back is a heck of alot closer to being #1 than "smells like teen spirit"

I had to think about this one for a while. In the end, I can see how it got to #1 on this list. it really did have a LOT of influence on the music of the decade, and helped to usher in a whole new era - the grunge era. While grunge music was building up popularity in the underground and on the west coast, when "Smells Like Teen Spirit" came out it exploded into the mainstream. It really did influence an entire generation in their music, clothing, lifestyle, etc. So in retrosepct, I really can see how it was picked. Although I admit - I thought "Jeremy" would be right there with it!

I can see why it would be picked as #1 for the 90's. The song was huge. People liked it that werent even into "alternative" rock, and it stayed huge for a long time. It also changed mainstream music to a whole different style that is still popular now.
