Covering songs?!
Question: is it illegal to cover song and put them on your myspace, or do i have to ask. and is it illegal to sell them. i want to cover some switchfoot and oasis.

If you make a copy of you singing someone's song and sell it, that writer is due royalties.
If you sing the Beatles' "Happy Birthday" live to your friend, you do not owe royalties. You just did your live performance of the song and you did not sell it.
I would suggest asking either band what they think and go from there.
You aren't allowed to put songs up on MySpace unless you own them. It should say that when you go through the process of putting them up.
You can't put songs on an album you sell unless you purchase rights to. Giving the album away, I dunno. But I bet the same rule applies.
You can sing covers during live performance, even when you get paid to, all you want.
