You need a system your voice needs to be ready for those notes dont just belt them out of no where. Practice day and night drink lots of fluids practice your breathing and sing from the diaphram. Go for it, "there's not a note in heaven that you can't reach" lol

get a vocal coach and she could help you on getting better

probably you're singing in different keys without noticing. the lowere keys are ok, but the higher ones are hard on your voice.
I would suggest practicing (maybe voice lessons?) and also, you dont always have to sing high! there are several categories of voices for women, such as alto (lower) and soprano (higher)
maybe find songs for altos if you sing better low!

It could be because your voice is in a different range, so for example, an alto probably wouldn't be able to sing the high notes in that song and you could be experiencing the same thing! so there's no real way to change your vocal chords but you can keep training and that takes time. A way to make your singing sound better, to make it sound like your not screeching to get the high notes, is to be careful when selecting songs! choose songs that don't require you to sing as many high notes and then your sound great! Hope I could help you!
