well unplug ur guitar or,turn off the distortion and turn down the volume,there r ways to make a electric guitar quiet,actully now that I think about it,u can by head phones and they hook up to ur amp so u can turn ur guitar up but u r the only one that hears it.Now to ur learning problem TABS!!!! There is this website called ulitimate guitar tabs.com or somethng like that I use it all the time all u have to do is type that in and it is the first thing that it brings up.Tabs make playing really easy.There r lots of way's to learn how to use tabs just ask on here.Any way,that's how I learned most of what I know by using tabs and that website I told u about has like every song u could ever want on there.I wouldn't recmond a teach your self guitar book they can be a little confuzing.So any way yeah use tabs get head phones (u can get the head phones at like any music supply store that sells guitars.) that should solve ur problems.Oh yeah and for electric guitar use thin picks,if u use thick picks on electric guitar the strings r more likely to break.so any way good luck and hope this helped.: )

Ear phones!

My brother loves the guitar and my mom n dad go to bed reallly early so he has a set of ear phones and when he plugs his guitar in the amp he also hooks up his earphones. He actually recorded a whole song at 3 am lol

Tell them to deal with it

my amp has a headphone jack.

You can buy an adapter for headphones to plug into your amp. Any music/guitar store should have them. I use them all the time when people get annoyed.

You can purchase headphone which will direct the sound to your ears, not the neighbors!

get a guitar that u can plug a pair of headphones into

Try a pair of headphones! See http://www.amazon.com/Tech-Pocket-Rockit...

don't plug it in when playing.. =\ you can hear fine without it-- but there's another way

my brother plays the guitar listening through his headphones... um u might want to research this up-- im too lazy to ask him >_>;

he does it by having this guitar device that connects to the computer and acts as a subwolfer or something

you can plug your guitar into headphones, turn your amp down, close your bedroom door, and shove towels around the bottom to mute the noise. I play also. =] good luck... its all fun and games till you get to the really tricky chords.

Headphones.

I would assume that the amplifier you are using has a headphone jack, only it probably won't fit the the regular headphones that you would use for an mp3 player. Just go to Best Buy and get an adapter for 1/8 inch (normal headphones) to 1/4 inch(like the end of your guitar cable). They cost about 3-4 bucks. Just pop it onto a pair of headphones and you will be the only one listening to your guitar.

Here is your answer!! Go to www.musiciansfriend.com and order a "Rockman guitar Ace." It is a small box that clips to your belt and has an input for your electric--or acoustic guitar--and has ear phones, or ear buds. It sounds just like you are hearing you guitar in an amplifier--except that you are the only one who can hear it! It runs on batteries and has a vol. control for your ear phone or head set. It works great!
