Will I Be Called A Poseur If I Don't Know The Specific Genre of The Music I !
Question: iTunes and many different websites give me different opinions. So do people; some people think some bands are more hardcore than other people might think. Some people think something may be country, and another might consider it pop. Here are the bands I listen to:
Silverstein, Paramore, Three Days Grace, Madina Lake, Flyleaf
Those are my favorites right now. Also, are any of these bands considered "poseurish" bands? What is the best way to see what genre a band is? Will I be called a poseur if I just say I like rock music? I think I will. I know people who like bands like Paramore, Cute Is What We Aim For, etc.. and they just say rock. I think that's vague and a totally different genre.

Who cares if someone calls you a poseur just because you don't know the name of a specific genre.
If someone asks you what kind of music you like, and if you think saying 'rock' is too vague of an answer, then just tell them some of the bands that you like.
And in my opinion I don't think you would be a poseur anyways, cause if you like certain songs..well, then you like those songs then. All that is, is that you like those songs because it appeals to your taste, and you're not making yourself listen to it just to fit in or classify yourself with a certain group of people or anything like that.
I would classify those bands in the alternative category but you really shouldn't care what people say in the first place. Music is music and if it makes you happy then it doesn't matter what genre it is.

you are a poser if you aren't listening to what you cant to be listening to. People run under a certain sterotype and don't even know it. And don't try to fit in with one, or label yourself, because you won't be an original. don't try so hard. if you listen to a ganre you dislike just to fit into a sterotype, just don't.

Tell everyone to go kill themself and listen to whatever and don't talk about it.
There are so many different genres and sub-genres of music that it's crazy. As long as you be yourself and not be someone or something you're not, you aren't a poser. As long as you don't "follow the crowd" because you think it is "cool", you are not considered a poser.
I wouldn't worry about certain genres, right now. Are you new to this genre? This can be a reason why you ask yourself this question. Just listen to what you listen to. Eventually, you'll get the hang on what sounds like what or what is classified as what.

I have so many different tastes in music, people don't call me anything. I honestly think that people are to quick to judge others nowadays. I don't call anyone anything because of their music, and I wish others were like that as well. All I can tell you is just be proud of who you are, and don't let people get you down because they don't like what you like. Good Luck!!
only posers call people posers.it's a vicious circle(dane cook style),but,i'd call them Alt-Rock,to keep it safe,because the bands you listed are in several different sub-genres of Alternative.
I think the real poseurs are the ones who focus more on genre than actual music.
i.e. "I'm punk because I listen to Black Flag"

wow... way to bring drama onto your self. Who cares what other people think of the music YOU enjoy listening to. Besides, who actually uses the word "poser" anymore? I'd stop worrying about the stupid things and focus on what's really important in life.
I'd call it alternative rock. And a poseur is someone that just focuses on the popular songs, bands and dresses for attention. As far as I can tell, you're not that. I can say I like rock, cause I mean I listen to like /all/ types of rock. Like everything between Slayer and Sufjan Stevens.

You listen to music, dont let the names of genres restrict you, i listen to loads of different genres, sometimes idk what genres some songs fall into but who cares. its all music, its made to be listened to, and thats what you do, it doesnt matter if u dont know things like genres or w.e u like that music, thaths all that matters.
