How long shouldn't be the question if you want to become a good pianist but what you should consider is the quality of your practice.

I'm a pianist and I practice around 4 and above hours a day if possible. But what's really satisfying is a good, concentrated, practice. And also a piece of advice, try very slow practicing with dynamics, etc. it really helps your memory and confidence and it lessens the chance of mistakes while learning the piece... good luck and best wishes.

you need to be more specific. i know your talking about an instrument but im not sure which. i learn how to play the flute, guitar & piano. i practic playing the flute 2 times a day, guitar 1 time a day and piano 2 times a day. it depends if you have a busy life and if you really want to be a professional player. if you are seriously passionate i suggest you play (the max) 5 times a day. my dad use to play the piano FOR FUN once a week and became a very good piano player. he now plays at resturants. good luck - remember that you can play as much and as little as you want. there is no limit (there is no actually maximum)

I think about an hour to 2 is a good amount, even just half would be good. As long as you practice at least that half you will be fine.

Hmmmmm, you asked for the MAXIMUM ! Well you should never practise so much that your hands or fingers hurt......or anywhere else in your body for that matter.
Too much prctise may result in nasty injuries such as tendonitis which are pretty much incurable once you get them. ( I have it in my left wrist).

I think 2 hours per day is a good amount. One hour in the morning and another hour in the evening. I would not practise for more than four hours per day.

You should have said which instrument you play and what you want to achieve from it.

How about the minimum? You don't sound very committed to me. You know the old adage, "practice makes perfect".

Unless you're a "budding Mozart", you need to practice as much as you can.

Some famous pianist once said(don't remember who): "If I miss one day of practice, I notice it; if I miss two, my manager notices it; if I miss three, the audience notices it".

I definitely agree with Bianca.
Before you sit down, decide the goals of your practice and how you will accomplish them. Instead of just random practicing for hours at a time, if you sit down with a goal in mind and how you're going to achieve the goal, it doesn't matter the time duration. If you're a wind player and want to build your chops, long practices are fine, but if you practice with goals, twenty minutes is better than an hour of random practicing.

This depends on a lot of things. First of all, what kind of instrument do you play? If you play a wind instrument, how long you practice may be determined by your lung capacity. If you want to improve, practice at increasingly longer intervals (30 minutes a day this week, 45 minutes per day the next, etc.) so that both your lung capacity and musical ability will improve. However, how much you improve depends on the focus and concentration of your practice. 15 minutes of focused and dedicated practicing is worth a lot more than 2 hours of goofing off.
One more thing- I'ts probably better to practice every day, even if you can't get that much time in. Instead of practicing for 3 hours once and awhile, try to fit practicing into your daily schedule. You'll improve at a steadier rate, and will retain what you've learned.
Hope this helps!
