The loss of Opry stars Del Reeves and Porter Wagoner, and Hall of Famer Hank Thompson were among the most memorable deaths of the year. Other deaths included Billy Talmadge Tubb (Ernest Tubb's nephew who wrote "Waltz Across Texas"), Lawton Williams (who wrote "Farewell Party"), and Glenn Sutton (who wrote "Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad").

Another year passed and Ernest V. Stoneman was still not inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Craig Havighurst released an outstanding book chronicling the history of radio station WSM ("Air Castle of the South"), which has been overdue for ages.

Ralph Emery started interviewing people again, this time on RFD-TV.

And, on a personal note, the last haven to buy country music on vinyl in my town closed its doors this year; and the woman who taught me to love Jim Reeves and Buck Owens, my mother, passed away.

sorry i can only remember up to late november

Trace Adkins - I got my game on..

Tex,my answer would be on the loss of two classic country icons so close together,Porter Waggoner and Hank Thompson.

i would have to say carrie underwood winning american idol, and becoming one of the hottest female country music singers to hit the scene in a long time.

Well in the Rugby World Cup, the England team were no-hopers, then the team started to sing the Kenny Rogers song ed called, know when to run (I think) in their dressing room as a sort of unofficial anthem.

The team got to the final and just got beat. Kenny became an England rugby fan and the song got to either number one or two in the charts.

So, a very unexpected story for country and western music, I must say, it had nearly the whole of England singing it!

Happy new year to you too.

Well since my money don't go on magazines and newspapers and things of that nature, I don't really know much of anything that has occured this year in country music. My money goes on the cable and internet bill for news and information.
The two things I remember are Porter Wagner's death and Mel Tillis along with a few others getting put in the Country Music Hall of Fame. and one more thing---Garth Brooks putting out a new CD and making the cover pink for the Susan G. Komen breast foundation.

I recall Mindy Mcready going to jail and also the lawsuit pending between Stonewall jackson and the Grand ole Opry and the Outragious commemt that Jeff Foxworthy made about Stonewall that lost-cost him a lot of his "Redneck" fans.

When some chick grabbed Tim McGraw's goodies- That story was everywhere. Mindy McCreedy going to jail. And of course all the great Country stars we lost.
