How do musicians write songs?!

Question: I wanna know?

Where do they start? What is the order in writing, lyrics, guitar tabs, bass tabs, drum tabs?

Ah! It's your lucky day...I actually know the answer to this one (check my bio)...

It varies...

Sometimes I'll come up with a rhythm in my head first, and then apply some new or old lyrics or "poem material as lyrics" later...and then play the guitar part first...and then when I've got that down pat, I sing the lyrics along with it...

Other times I might write some new lyrics (or a poem) or like some old ones I've written, and then taylor-them to a certain new rhythm idea that the lyrics inspired...

I'll try slow, medium, and fast tempo on the rhythm and lyrics, and then try to pick the best tempo of the three that seems to sound the best...

I'm always writing a song in the back of my mind...my friends think I'm "preoccupied" sometimes, as if I'm ignoring them...but I'm not ignoring them...I sometimes in the middle of a conversation suddenly get an idea that I try out in the silent back of my mind while I'm listening to them...so they think I'm tuning them out, not realizing that I am mentally ambidexterous, and can easily do both...

a lot of musicians get songwriters to do it for them

but if ur talking about the few who write themselves, idk, but the ppl who write are incredible talented

i can barely write a poem that rhymes

They have people do it for them.

Well, this is a hard question to answer because there is no formula...
first off, you need good musicians who can play by ear
then all you do is play, someone starts a rythym and then others accompany it. Usually lyrics are written as the music is written or after. in my band we all get together and just play anything, and then once we have a basic song i.e. the rythym parts we start writing lyrics, and eventually add lead, harmony, and melody to the song.
good luck

They go to school, learn music theory and notation, and write sheet music.

It depends who they are and what the yare writing about. Most people have people write their songs for them but it is fairly easy to make a verse to any tune out there and it is just a matter of making an entire song.
