Their albums all sound quite different. The band has been described as Alternative Metal, Industrial rock/metal etc.
I'll go for a snazzy combination of the two.
The media call Marilyn Manson [the person] Goth because of the way he looks, if they'd ever heard actual Gothic Rock then they'd know that his music sounds nothing like it.
The "Should not be allowed to make music" genre...This genre is becoming more and more crowded....

I would put him in Industrial. He is in there with Nine Inch Nails and those types of bands. THe media called him that because they are gay.
He's definetly industrial. I don't care that much though as long as no one says that he's black metal, because a lot of people are under the impressions he is, and he isn't...

The earlier Goth Rock bands were first dubbed "Positive Punk". It is an off-shoot of the punk rock scene. Nowadays, it often has to do with fashion - the way a person looks and dresses.
It often has to do with a morbid appearance (not that I mind) including black clothes, black lipstick, tats, piercings, and a morbid and hedonistic attitude. It usually involves personal growth or personal politics.

Marilyn definitely doesn't fit in with Green Day or Slipknot. I'd have to agree with the majority and say industrial like Nine Inch Nails. I see you're asking a lot of questions about Rock here lately. This one was a good one.
