METALLICA VS. SLAYER? WHiCH BAND IS MORE METAL?!
Question: metallica originally metal all the way, through the corporate world , they became a commercial success and once that happens it is over. IE: Load however, the real decline from metal status was when Metallica began cutting their hair and using counseling to solve their problems ---- VERY un-metal
Slayer has never reached that commercial level, are still unintelligable, are they even still touring?

EDIT : i think people prefer metallica cuz theyre melodic while SLAYER is more into thrash and always talks bout satan, horror etc.
come on, KERRY KING is a genius, he wrote most of the songs and those dudes are well respected in the metal genre.
yes metallica is good too, but theyve become crap now, if their new album next year is like st anger, i guess they should retire cuz not, they'll lose the position of "legend".

If you would've asked me this before "Load" I would've said Metallica, duh! With the crap Metallica has put our recently, I'll say Slayer just because I'm angry Metallica sold out. Slayer hasn't sold out. They get my vote.

METALLICA is my all time favourite band, but i do think Slayer is heavier, but METALLICA are still the kings of metal.
Slayer, to my recollection has never played wimpy songs.
Metallica has been fairly wimpy since the mid-80s.
It's been a long time since Metallica produced albums like "Ride The Lightning", "Master of Puppets", & "Garage Days".
Slayer, on the other hand, keeps on really rocking.
That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Slayer was, and still is, Metal.
Metallica used to be Metal long ago. At one time, they were the best Metal band on the planet. Cliff (the heart, soul, and musical genius of Metallica) got killed, Jason got tired of the James and Lars soap opera and he bailed, James' and Lars' egos swelled to biblical proportions, they lost their edge and sold out to the big label to make cute, little "me too" corporate "metal" music that gets played on MTV. Their first three albums are Metal classics, the fourth was very good (still had some "Cliff" in it), the fifth had it's moments, then everything fell apart and they've produced nothing but crap since, culminating in that big green steaming pile called "St. Anger".

Dude, there is no comparison whatsoever, Slayer couldn't even dream of being like Metallica, Master Of Puppets alone could blow Slayer's whole catalog out of the water.
Well since Metallica's name actually has the word "metal" in it, I'm inclined to go with them.
No, seriously, both bands are legendary in their own right. Sure Metallica has gone rapidly downhill lately and Slayer has never made a dud album, but nothing makes either band any more "metal" than the other. I really feel that if the former had made better records than Load, Reload and St Anger than they would be the dominant band in metal by a long shot.
Call me a fool but I still have faith in Hetfield and Co. I think their new album next year will single-handedly feed all of their critics six courses of humble pie. I truly believe they have learnt from their mistakes. Wait and see. Maybe they should call the album "Redemption".
My favourite album by any band ever is The Black Album. I never fully got into Slayer but the songs I have of theirs are simply mindblowing. I can't say either band is any more metal than the other, nor can I say which one I prefer. They're both legends, sure one might have made big mistakes in the past, but they're not dead yet and the battle for metal's high throne wages on.

slayer is defiantly more metal. but metallica is way better, i recommend metallica over slayer.

Slayer would make Metallica their b1tch.
Slayer is by far the heavier but I wouldn't call them "more metal" Slayer continues to crank out the heavy tunes and Metallica continues to mellow out. They are both very inspirational in the world of metal.

Slayer has remained consistent and true to its form since its inception. EVERY Slayer album kicks @$$. If I had to pick Slayer's "weak point", it would be "Divine Intervention"; but even that release is solid.
Metallica started out strong, then started to give out with "...And Justice For All" and have sucked ever since.
Slayer has gotten better over the years as Metallica has gotten worse. Metallica should retire.
Metallica is the better band.
More 'metal', perhaps slayer is, but Metallica is better to listen to.
In order to make good music, you need a balance of heavy, melodic, and good lyrics. Slayer doesn't have that balance. Metallica pinned it down perfectly. Their music has meaning, not just trying to be the loudest, fastest, or the most shocking.
