How do you describe a vocal range using letters and numbers?!

Question: I sing from an F below middle C to an A above high C. My comfort is as a soprano, so I have soprano written on my resume. But I know sometimes people are going to ask for my range. And also, I'm just curious. (for example, someone said their range was like G1 to C5 or something like that).

When you say "high C", I'm assuming you mean the C two octaves above middle C. If so, your vocal range that you say you have would be described as F3 - A6.

However, you should specify if your bottom-most notes and top-most notes are not loud enough to be heard without using a microphone. For example: I can sing down to E3, but it's not sturdy enough to be heard without using a microphone.

tell them that you sing from an f below middle c to an a above high c, that will give them your vocal range. no need to get super fancy. also you should include your voices octaves.
